The Eastern Mountain Wilderness Challenge

Western Adirondacks

August 10-11, 2024

REGISTRATION FOR EMWC 2024 IS NOW OPEN!

Four checkpoints. Zero transition areas. This is as pure as adventure racing gets.

Remote. Unspoiled. This is your invitation to visit a spectacular wilderness where the moose far outnumber the people. This year’s courses will visit areas where no trails traverse the interior, and where barely a handful of visitors set foot each year. Participants will be tested by the rugged terrain and challenging navigation, but rewarded with vibrant fall foliage, countless pristine ponds, winding rivers, cascading waterfalls, abundant wildlife, and lush, primeval forest.

Come to race or just for an epic adventure. Participants are in for a true wilderness experience, where they will travel by foot and packraft through a linear, point-to-point course. There will be no manned transition areas, your mode of travel is entirely up to you. And with only four checkpoints, sometimes separated by huge distances, participants will be treated to plenty of route choice and freedom to explore.

The 3rd Annual Eastern Mountain Wilderness Challenge returns to the Western Adirondacks, and will once again feature two events:

The Classic Race - 30 Hours

The spectacular original route from Stillwater to Wanakena. An endless number of route options.

The Pro Race - 36 Hours

Same great finish in Wanakena, but roughly double the length of the Classic. This course is open to racers by invitation or application only. No one was able to finish in 2023. Will you be the first?
